Apple to Pay VirnetX $625 million for Infringement in Apple’s FaceTime and iMessage.
An east Texas federal district court has had given a ruling compelling apple to pay VirnetX the sum of $625 million over violation of a patent right of VirnetX.
The ruling came in favor of VirnetX, a company that makes its fortunes from patent right violation suits. VirnetX alleged the Apple infringed communication protocol patent in Apple’s FaceTime, iMassage and VPN on Demand and the devices that they used them.
Remember this is not the first of lawsuit VirnetX is putting up against Apple after a similar case in 2012 that saw Apple charged for a similar violation and made to pay VirnetX $365 million.
VirnetX had earned more from patent right violation from tech giants Microsoft and Skype in previous times as both were compelled to pay VirnetX violation fee of $200 million and $23 million respectively on different occasions.
This time around, VirnetX “patent Troll” giant is asking for $625 million from Apple after it was confirmed that Apple continued to use VirnetX protocol patents in its FaceTime, VPN on Demand and iMessage in its devices.
